How to Keep Children Safe While Playing With Toys

Lets face it. Moms are always busy with taking care of children, laundry, dishes, dinner, paying bills, taking care of pets and some even work for a living outside of the home. When children play in a play room or in any room with their toys, it is a little bit of breather for a busy mom but one thing you must consider at all times is your child's safety while they play and you take a second to rest.

Always watch your kids while they play. You may be exhausted and just want to rest but playing with your child can relieve stress and they have much more fun when you are involved and interacting with them.
Never let your child play with a toy that isn't age appropriate for them. Read the safety labels.
As toys are played with, dropped, thrown etc pieces start to break and they show wear and tear. Inspect your child's toys to make sure that they are still safe and wont get hurt on rough or sharp edges or swallow small pieces and choke.
Avoid toys that have large cords or strings attached. Children tend to wrap the strings around things including their own necks which can result in strangulation.
Use a toy box to store your children's toys but make sure that they lid can not fall on your child's head or fingers.

One of the best and most vigilant things you can do is check the Consumer Product Safety Commissions web site (www.cpsc.gov) for all the recent toy recalls. It is always better to be safe rather than sorry.

Electronic Devices Make Cool Kid's Toys

Toy manufacturers spend a great deal of time and money in an attempt to create the "cool" kid's toys each year. These companies spend millions of dollars trying to create a buzz about their newest offerings in the hopes that they will become the next big thing and generate significant profits. And while many of these toys are simple novelties that never catch on, there are others that are consistently listed as top sellers.

In today's high-tech world, electronic toys are by far the most popular type of toy currently on the market. Advanced electronics that ten years ago would've been considered the stuff of science fiction are now so common that they are actually considered "toys". They include a wide range of different products, from video games to remote control vehicles and can cost anywhere from a few to several hundreds of dollars.

Video games have been at the top of the "cool kid's toys" list for at least the last two to three decades. Ever since the first computerized video games were available in a console for use at home, these toys have only increased in popularity with each passing year. Today's video games are vastly superior to those of just ten years ago, often including life-like graphics and highly interactive game-play.

Music players have also become so common that they are often given as children's toys. These items have quite literally revolutionized the way we listen to music, and their popularity has helped to drive the costs down. It is not uncommon to see children as young as seven or eight years old walking to school with one of these devices in their hand. Many of the newer versions of these devices can also be used to surf the Internet, make phone calls, and of course, play video games.

There are also a host of other electronic devices that can make for cool kid's toys. For younger children that are learning to read, eReaders can be found in models specifically designed for kids. Digital cameras can also be a great toy idea for children, with many companies that sell kid-friendly versions. Even laptop computers are available in designs that are made just for kids.

Things to Do With Old Toys

If you are like many modern parents, you have quite a few old toys around the house. While some children will scream and holler if you try to get rid of any of their toys, if you are careful you should be able to get away with putting those old toys to good use without upsetting your children.

Top Things to Do With Old Toys

Here are a few things you can do with those old toys before you just dump them in the trash so they head to a landfill.

Donate - Not only can donating old toys get rid of them, it can also be used as an opportunity to teach your children about charity. In today's world, selfishness is more rampant than ever before. Because of this, donating old toys to a worthy cause is a great thing to do to teach your children that it is sometimes better to give than to receive. While Toys for Toys and other toy drives may not accept old toys, there are many ways to pass on slightly older toys to people who are more unfortunate. With the recession still waging, there are many people who would love to have some toys donated to them.
Trade Them - This will not work for all old toys you might have, but for video games it works great. By trading in old games for new ones, parents can save money while their children are able to enjoy the latest and greatest games. There are websites and stores that exist that will usually trade two old video games for one new one. This is a terrific way to get rid of old games while still getting something for them. You are not going to get what you paid for the games originally, but for avid gamers, the savings can add up over time.
These are just two simple ideas of what you can do with your old toys. If you sit down and think about it, you are sure to come up with a list of other things that you can do with all of the old toys you have in your home. If your children are moving out to go to college, it might be a good time to go through their old toys. Just make sure you do it after they move out! In all seriousness, getting rid of old toys does not have to be a hassle if you don't want to send your old toys to the landfill.

Old Fashioned Traditional Toys Vs Electronic Toys

How long a child will be captivated and play with a new toy is one of mum and dad's first considerations when buying baby toys or children's toys. Nobody wants to see the traditional cliché of forking out lots of cash on a toy and find the child playing with the box it came in! Yet another major factor but one that many parents don't take into account are the positive effects a toy may have on the advancement and development of the youngster.

Children grow in a variety of areas these are; cognitive (physically), and socially (through interaction with other children and adults). A well designed child's toy can, as well as being great fun to play with, help to trigger growth in some of these areas. So when you visit the toyshop are there any simple do's and don'ts we should be considering when selecting that critical purchase?

First of all, and somewhat controversially, you can pretty much steer clear the new wave of electronic toys and computer run educational toys available. Experts discovered that these toys are goal oriented, meaning that a kid isn't learning to think creatively or exploratively in their play, and thus their cognitive growth is not triggered. Toys that coax the child and thereby reduce the child's efforts and cognitive process in play do not stimulate development. This class of toy will not give a kid the chance to think creatively or discover new ways of creative thinking. As any parent knows a child's imagination is limitless and it is this gift to think differently from adults that enable a child to grow cognitively at such an incredible rate. If the toy only has one path and one outcome, a child will not learn to decide between options to work out a puzzle.

University studies have demonstrated that old fashioned toys are the most beneficial when it comes to triggering cognitive growth simply because a infant can employ them in any variety of ways. This enables a den to be anything from a house to a market stall to the space co-ordination centre for the latest mission into outer space. Jean Piaget, a revered child physiologist, termed new methods of thinking "schemas". Schemas are developed through the kind of creative thinking we describe here.

Traditional baby toys also come up trumps in the area of stimulating motor ability too. A child's physical advancement can be divided into two major areas; gross motor skills (the growth of the large muscles so we can run, lift and move) and the fine motor skills (these allow us to control objects with our hands with great skill and care). Classic, traditional toys such as sorting cages and xylophones are super fun for young toddlers to develop hand-eye co-ordination, while bikes, trikes and toddler cars keep older kids moving as they develop their growing muscles, strength and co-ordination.

Finally, it's clear that the most straight forward toys might be the answer for social growth as well. Toys that trigger interaction and team work are a superb way to develop a child's ability to empathise and work with others. Role play toys are amazing at this, allowing a kid to practice unfamiliar situations in a safe place and also to interact with other children to produce more complex make believe situations. They permit a kid to act out scenarios and better comprehend the environment around them whilst being secure at the same time.

Remember the following points before you start your next Christmas shopping, It will help you greatly.

1. Can the toy be used in a number of different ways?
2. Can a infant change the purpose of the toy with his or her own minds eye and ideas?
3. Would this toy be durable, safe, captivating, enjoyable, and certified for that age of child?
4. Can the toy provide increasing levels of difficulty so it can grow with the child?
5. Check whether the toy is suitable for use with other youngsters, permitting interaction.
6. Is this toy simply a flash in the pan or will it remain a component of your little one's life for years to come.

No matter how fancy it looks, or how well advertised or packaged it is, the robot dinosaur will never offer your child the development of skills that the plain old pull toy offers. The spotty dog will still be taking walks even with the batteries drained on the Robo-Dino.

Kids Toys - The Joy Of Your Children

Kids are the biggest treasure of God to the parents. They are the most important members of the family. So taking care of them and their happiness is also very important. Happiness of their kids should be the first priority of parents. Kids are most happy when they are at play, while playing they enjoy their life and are out of everything in the world. They live in a world that is full of joys and their play.

Kids toys are one of the most important elements of their play. Toys are object use by kids to play. When it comes to growing up kids and teaching them about the world around us toys play a very important role. Playing with toys prepares the kids for their social role. Kids toys provide entertainment to the kids while also teaching them about different things. They have to develop the mental and physical skills of kids, which are very important in future as kids have to face the world and understand it.

Kids toys are found in many different forms. They may be representatives of dolls, animals, infants, and soldiers or of tools. Kids get entertained by playing with them as they think of them as if they are real and those living in the world the kids want them to. Kids toys also include different types of vehicles like cars, buses, motorbikes, airplanes, trains and trucks etc. Kids from ancient times are playing with such toys before there were two-wheeled carts but nowadays there are military vehicles, toy boats etc created by different companies like Hot Wheels, Matchbox etc. There are a huge variety of kids' toys available in the market giving each individual a chance to choose the one of their own choice.

Kids toys also exist in the shape of puzzles. Actually a puzzle is a problem that challenges humans' ability of applying ideas to solve a problem. To solve a puzzle you may have to recognize a pattern or crate a particular order. The children with good deductive skills are able to solve puzzles easily and faster then other children.

In some cases kids are interested in just collecting different toys to have a complete collection such as action figure, cartoon characters, lonely tones, mego dolls, teddy bears, strawberry short cake, super heroes, bobble heads, universal monsters, Simpson's, Popeye weebles, transformers etc. The most used and famous collectible toys are Barbie, matchbox car, toy gun, tow sewing machine and many more.

The Use of Children's Toys in Promoting Healthy Development

When buying baby toys and children's toys a parent's main concern is usually the 'play value' of an item more accurately how many hours fun will a child derive from a new toy. Nobody wants to see the traditional cliché of spending good money on a toy and find the child playing with the box it came in! Another important factor and one that most parents don't consider is the benefits a toy can have on a child's development and growth.

Children develop in a number of ways namely; cognitive (mental ability), motor (physically), and socially (through interaction with others). A well thought out child's toy can, as well as being a lot of fun to play with, help to stimulate development in one or more of these areas. So when we visit the toy shops are there any simple do's and don'ts we should be considering when making that all important purchase?

First of all, and rather controversially, you can pretty much avoid the new wave of e-learning toys and computer based educational toys on the market. Studies have shown that these toys do little to stimulate a child's mental development as they tend to limit a child's mental options in the pursuit of a single pre-determined goal. Toys that restrict a child's imagination and ability to think 'out of the box' do little to promote learning as they do not develop new mental strategies or patterns of thinking. As any parent knows a child's imagination has no limits and it is this ability to think differently from adults that allows a child to grow cognitively at such an incredible rate. By playing a game with a fixed path and single outcome the child is never encouraged to think around a problem.

Research studies have demonstrated that traditional toys are the most useful when it comes to fueling mental development simply because a child can use them in any number of ways. This allows a playhouse to be anything from a hospital to a shop to the lunar control station for the next mission into space. It is through this creative thinking that children are able to create what the famous Child Physiologist, Jean Piaget, termed 'schemas', or new ways of thinking.

Traditional baby toys also come up trumps when it comes to developing physical ability too. A child's physical development can be divided into two major categories; gross motor skills (the development of the big muscles so we can run, jump and carry) and the fine motor skills (these allow us to manipulate things with our hands with great skill and dexterity). For years humble traditional toys such as shape sorters and hammer and peg benches have been great for helping hand eye co-ordination and developing little muscles and bikes, tricycles and scooters have been brilliant at developing the size, strength and co-ordination of the bodies larger muscles in older children.

Finally it seems simple toys may also be the answer when it comes to social development too. Toys that encourage interaction and team work are a great way to develop a child's ability to empathise and work with others. Role play toys are brilliant at this, allowing a child to try new situations in a safe environment and also to work with other children to create more complex make believe situations. They allow a child to act out situations and better understand the world around them whilst feeling secure at the same time.

So next time you go shopping for that killer Christmas or Birthday present for your child consider the following points.

1. Can the toy be used in a number of different ways?
2. Can a child transform the purpose of the toy with their own imagination and ideas?
3. Is the toy fun, safe, sturdy and exciting?
4. Does the toy offer different levels of activity so it can grow with the child?
5. Does the toy allow for social interaction with other children?
6. Will this toy still be popular with a child in a years time or merely a marketing fad?

Remember that despite all the expensive marketing, glossy adverts and eye catching packaging the latest robot dinosaur won't offer a child anywhere near the same level of developmental opportunities as the simple pull along wooden dog. Whatsmore long after Robo-Dino's batteries have gone dead, good old spotty dog will still be going for 'walkies'.

The History of Toys Over Time

Toys sure have came a long way since the first doll made literally thousands of years ago in ancient Egyptian times. Imagine this, the first doll was made with basic fabrics and paper pulled together with some string! Nowadays we have complex toys made of plastics, alloys, rubbers, and so many other materials too many to mention. But not only have the materials advanced, now toys can transform, move on their own, and even speak!

Let's look back at some of the original toys back in ancient times. The first doll was made somewhere around 2000 B.C. Sure, try to hand a child a paper doll in these times. Other than the doll there was kites and yo-yo's and real basic board games that resemble our modern day chess.

Now we're going to skip ahead a few thousand years into a more recent period. Not many more toys where invented until the 1800's. Alphabet blocks also became a popular learning toy during this time.

On to the 1900's now. Pretty much by now every toy has been made at this point. But the 1900's is when all the major technological advances started coming to life. Early in the century there where battery operated toys, Legos, balloons, the View Master, and of course I can't forget Barbie, probably them epitome of all girl's dolls and toys in general. The stuffed bear became popular during this after being name the Teddy Bear after one of our presidents Sir Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt.

OK let's bring it back recent times now. The only one thing left to do now really do now is to make the toys even better by implementing some real technology into the toys. Toys that walk on their own, toys that can talk back to you?! OLD NEWS! Try motion sensory technology, voice activated, and terrain adaptable toys. Ancient Egyptians would be scared of some of these toys we have invented nowadays. Yes, toys have advanced quite a lot over the years, and remember in their own time they were always fun to play with as toy were meant to be. Fun.

Kids Play Toys

When deciding what toys to get for your child, there are many things that you will need to think about, including their gender, age and abilities. You will also have to think about your budget and getting the most for your money. Kids play toys come in different shapes, sizes and price ranges and it can all be very daunting. You should look at what your child enjoys playing with as this can help to make the decision about what toy play sets they would like.

Your child's age will often determine what you buy them to play with. Even though some children will develop quicker, it is best to look at the recommended age for the kids play toys. You should always try to find toys that are fun to play with but also offer some type of educational benefits as well. You will want the toy play sets to help them develop and progress and there are some toys that are designed with this in mind.

Kids are very curious and love to copy their peers so any toy play sets they can use to copy you are ideal. You may want to look at kitchen sets and tool benches that can help your child to develop certain skills. They will love playing with these toys and can spend hours in pretend play using the skills they are learning to make you fantastic pretend items. Kids play toys you buy will often depend on the space you have in your home. Although you want your children to have a vast range of toys, you can often buy far too much.
\
You should try to watch your child to see what type of toys they are attracted to and then buy the type of toys they enjoy. Some children love puzzles whereas others prefer construction toys. You should try to encourage them to play with different toy play sets, though. If they prefer one type of toy, this is fine and you can help them to develop their skills using this toy. Taking your child to a toy store and letting them look around will often help you to see which toys they prefer.

You should try to buy quality toy play sets as these will last longer and be safer for your children. Cheaper toys tend to break easily and you will need to replace them soon. You should try to buy kids play toys that will help to stretch their abilities and enable them to learn. All children love to learn new things and doing this through toys is an ideal way. Your child will be learning how to count, play, develop social skills and share without even knowing it.

Choosing bright colorful toy play sets is essential to keep your child interested in the toys. Once they have outgrown them, you can keep them for siblings. If you are going out to buy toy play sets, remember to set a budget as you may want to spoil your child. But they won't mind as long as they get toys.

Toys and the Five Senses

The five senses are important when it comes to picking out toys for children.

You need to take into account the look of a toy. Is it pleasing to look out. Whilst conventional toys are cute and fluffy there are a new style of toys that are scary and weird. When toys are based on characters from TV or films then it's important that they look very similar to their counterpart! If they don't then the toy decreases in interest and playability.

When toys make a noise it unusually makes children happy! Toys that can be banged, shaken or make a tune are always fun to play with. Toys that make a lot of noise are often more fun! Toy drum kits will be popular for this reason for ever! Whilst toys that can be noisy without much skill are preferred, it's always wise to weigh up the noise making ability of a toy before giving it as a gift!

Touch is important for younger children who will want to reach out and grab toys. Having different textures or materials makes a toy more interesting to babies and this is why many activity toys for them have so many different materials and types of fabric used in their construction! As children develop and grow they can enjoy different toys that don't always feel soft and fluffy - and moving on to harder materials like those used in building sets is an important step. As children grow they want toys that are more interesting and have the ability to do many different things.

many toys are odorless, as part of their design, but some toys such as Play Doh! evoke memories in an instant with a single sniff! For adults, the smell of Play Doh, will once again take on when they were young, and so many parents have played with him as a young man, even grandparents! For many people, the smell of a new book is something special! There were some toys made of strawberry smellStrawberry Shortcake dolls that smelled! You do not have an equivalent for the boys yet, although the smell of engine oil in the engine main hangar at Manchester Science Museum is pretty close!

The final taste is a toy imported rare, but there have been toys were mostly sweet, more like to be converted. There were actually appears whistle a note, based sweets, cakes and candy bracelets made allthe baking toys that help you to make edible treats!

Children's toys can include more than one sensory area at a time. When you come to pick a present for a child consider which of the senses are used by the toy! Some toys will obviously use several senses when played with, and some may encourage the use of imagination to bring out the other sense involvement! Even a kitchen play set can produce noise when you use spoons as drum sticks!

Wooden Toys Trump Plastic

When considering toys for children of any age, one would do well to consider traditional wooden toys over their cheap, plastic counterparts. Wooden toys are safer, more hygienic, and do not contain lead or other objectionable chemicals.

Plastic toys are a hazard, to put it mildly. Parts shatter, leaving jagged holes for curious fingers to be cut on and small shards to be put into little mouths. Also, plastic will frequently fade or warp when bleach-based cleaners are used, leaving them impossible to disinfect. Conversely, wooden toys do not break easily. If they do, it is usually a metal join that has bent, such as a wheel on a car, and leaves no small choking hazards behind. Sealed wood can also be swabbed with antibacterials and left to dry, daily if necessary. As most babies and small children frequently put toys to their mouth, this will cut down on everything from run-of-the-mill colds to life-threatening infections.

Plastic toys imported from China and other points in the east have also been accused of unacceptably-high lead and chemical contents. Lead is known to cause harm to the human body. Even if levels are not high enough to induce poisoning, mental faculties can be impaired and intestinal disease has been reported. Wooden toys are not host to any of these issues. In fact, most wood items are sealed using polyurethane to give them that shine that children are attracted to. Polyurethane is inert once dry.

In short, wooden toys are safer for your children than those made of plastic. With no choking hazards, rough edges, or chemicals leeching from their children's toys, parents can be confident choosing a wooden toy over its cheaper, hazardous plastic counterpart any day.

It features George in his white doctor's coat, a stethoscope, headband and even a black doctor's bag, for those all important house calls, you know.

There were a couple episodes where George rode into space as an astronaut, or is that astro-monkey? Regardless, they were funny shows. In "Grease Monkey in Space", the Man with the Yellow Hat is enlisted to help fix a telescope in space, as it turns out the scientists that built the telescope weren't thinking and it required someone with four hands to fix it. Well, that leaves no one but George! And in "Rocket Ride", George is asked to fly a rocket to deliver supplies to a space station. Custom Plush Toys - Is Simpler Better?

Many critics would say that makes stuffed animals for sale is not a wise decision. They will tell you that, like the generation game console, the robot toy and that's all. It 's easy to see why I think so. After all, custom plush animals would even have difficulties in competing directly with them, because they are complex. Stuffed toys do not have the ability to link games, songs and movies as their most advanced.

Thisis a trap that you can easily fall into. Of course, you can't really compare custom plush with the more advanced toys. Even if they're both toys, it's really like apples and oranges. But some individuals would make stuffed toys to sell with complexity in mind. They're thinking of sales right off the bat. They plan a lot of things to add "bells and whistles" to the toys. Why do they do this? It's because they think that the more complex the toy is, the better.

But is that the case? Sure, it's good to have plush toys that have complexities not found on other toys. After all, you're trying to invent the next big thing in toys and the only way that you can see that happening is if you offer something not found on other toys. But because of this, you plan a lot of details without the end results in mind. You think of cute things to put and complex details to add to them. But come production time, you realize that it's not possible because it's too complex for the toy.

When you're making plush toys to sell, you have to set up a plan from start to finish. That means having a plan that you can follow from the designing up to the selling process. Don't waste your efforts in something that you can't do down the line. During the planning process, ask yourself if it can be done. When in doubt, ask a manufacturer if it's possible. After all, they are the ones who will be making it.

A simple rule of thumb is, it is difficult for you to play intricate detail in small stuffed animals. Of course, it would be easier for a big project stuffed animals have become more complex and specific. It 'also important to remember that these are round and soft toys. This is why it can be difficult to design something with sharp edges, such as triangles and squares. Therefore, it is important to stay with the round design. You can still design with corners, but notthat detailed. You also have to minimize thin details as much as possible. You have to remember that plush toys during production are turned inside out. So it would be really hard to put something like really thin legs on the custom plush toys.

So should you still make plush toys for sale if there are limitations to it? Yes, you should. It's just a matter of finding the balance between size and complexity while taking into consideration the limitation of production. Ask your manufacturer what can be done and what will work with them. After all, plush toys never really relied on the "bells and whistles" but it always has been very popular. It still is.

The artist easels are solidly built and sure to take years of "abuse" from over-active artists! They come stand-alone easels or you can purchase the set with all the supplies to get your young one started immediately.

For the little princess or knight in shining armor, Melissa and Doug offer fantastic wooden castles. There are dolls made especially to fit the block and furniture for a more interactive fun. There are several dolls for fun. There are wrinkles doll houses, a Victorian model of a giant wooden house with two floors. A wide selection of furniture and accessories are available for each room. I want to be a child again so I could play .... maybe I'll do the same!

My favorite is the tree house. It is approximately 20 "tall and has a working pressure trap door pulley, hammock, hammock and retractable stairs - allindoors! This is sure to be a hit on any child's list!

Melissa and Doug have wonderful rattles and push toys for the younger crowd. The "clacker" push toys are my personal favorites. There is a duck, an elephant and even a larger alligator clacker toy

Cars, trucks, emergency vehicles, fire engines and even a garbage truck; many in sizes suitable for very young children with all the safety features could be possible only desire. The colors are bright and attractive for their attractive or desirable for all ages.
