Custom Plush Toys and the Issue of Safety

Plush toys have got to be one of the most harmless looking toys out there in the market. I mean, who would be afraid of the cute little toy? Custom stuffed toys are no exception since they usually make them with the same intention in mind - to be cute and cuddly.

So what's all the fuss about safety? A lot of people are now getting concerned about toys nowadays. Toys being recalled certainly don't help the cause. Before, it wasn't really an issue, but with more and more people getting victimized by unsafe toys, you can't risk putting out unsafe toys in the market.

The U.S. government heeded our collective calls for safe toys. Yes, that includes custom plush dolls. While these toys generally look safer than a lead covered toy car, it still has to pass certain laws and restrictions. To protect the consumers, we now have the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act or the CPSIA.

As an inventor of stuffed toys, should you be concerned about the CPSIA? You're probably thinking that it's not your concern since you won't be manufacturing the toys. You're just going to use your idea. But that's where you're wrong. According to the CPSIA, the whole supply chain is responsible for the safety of the plush doll. Yes, that includes you as the toy inventor.

So what should you do? There are some things that you need to take care of. Make sure that all the paperwork is in place for your toys. Don't even think of falsifying them. Also, make sure to get all the proper safety tests done. In addition, make sure that each and every plush doll gets at least passing marks from a certified safety testing company.

So what's going to happen if you fail to do those things? You will be violating the CPSIA. That would mean hefty fines or even jail time. If you think I'm trying to scare you, you're right. I am trying to scare you so that you'll understand the repercussions if you produce unsafe plush toys. Again, you are responsible for the safety of your custom plush toys so learn how to stand by your product.

But don't be too concerned. There is one way to make sure that everything gets done according to the CPSIA. I understand that it's hard to stand by a plush idea if you need to do things that can easily overwhelm you. All you need to do is team up with a reliable manufacturer. They understand the importance of safety and are also responsible and would gladly assume responsibility with you. But because you have a partner that understands the law and the repercussions, if you break it, you'll have a less stressful time. They'll do everything to make sure that your plush idea will turn into a reality without breaking any safety regulations. This would mean less pressure on you so you can focus on the other aspects to help you succeed.

Tips to Choosing a Safe Crib

Millions of cribs are recalled every year for different safety reasons, and most infant fatalities have happened in non recalled cribs then cribs that have been recalled.

1. The first thing you want to make sure is to check that a crib your have bought (whether new or used) is not on a list for being a recalled crib. Another great idea is to purchase a crib that transitions into a bed as your infant will grow faster than you sometimes realize.

2. Make sure that you are following the manufacturers directions when putting the crib together, and that you do not end up with a bunch of left over parts when done. Remember you are putting together something that is to be a safe haven for your child not a desk. Check the slates when done to make sure that they are no more than 2 3/8 inches apart, and that the side rail that lowers has no less than two locking devices to hold it in place.

3. Make sure that if you bought the mattress separate that it is a tight fit within the crib and not loose and floating around. Not only do you want a tight fitting mattress you also want one that is firm as a soft mattress may play a role in Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Make sure that the bedding you buy is also a tight fit to the mattress. You do not want a loose sheet that could suffocate your infant in the middle of the night.

These are just a few tips to help in trying to choose a good crib for infant, be sure to read more than just this and to educate yourself as much as possible on cribs. With things like suffocation and SIDS you want to make sure that you eliminate as many possible situations that may arise from your infants crib. Being the leading cause of injury, and death among nursery products become an expert on cribs. This will give you a good piece of mind at night when laying your infant down for bed time.

Learning Toys For Toddlers Help Children Grow

Every toy is a learning toy to a toddler.  Babies and toddlers are still learning basic ideas about the world, and concepts like opposites, numbers, left and right, behind and in front, are still in the early stage of development. Toys that keep their attention and that make them work with new ideas will help them learn important skills that later can lead to good motor skills, hand eye coordination, arithmetic and reading.

Many toddler toys are designed with special learning functions in mind. For instance, they may feature a wheel that behaves differently when turned to the right or the left, which teaches the toddler that there is a difference between left and right and that moving the toy wheel can affect the world. These toddler games often feature numbers that display or light up, with each number corresponding to some part of the play, to help the kids learn that a bigger number means something bigger in the play of the toy.

Other toys for toddlers have parts that the child puts together. These toys may be as simple as a set of soft pegs onto which the toddler must place various shapes. The classic square peg and round hole come to mind, and these toys can teach not only about numbers but about more abstract ideas like space and shape. Other toddler toys will have parts that must fit together in certain ways to make a bigger toy. One example of such a kids toy is a play car or truck with bare axels to which the toddler must attach the wheels. Not only does the toddler learn about fitting one shape to another, but that these shapes build into an entirely new object that may behave differently from any of its toy parts.

Now is a wonderful time to be shopping for learning toys for toddlers. All of the toy builders have lines of toys that are specialized just for kids of a certain age, and the variety of toddler learning toys is amazing. You can shop for toys that develop very specific skills in your child, and you can find so many toys that there will be one for your toddler no matter what he or she likes or dislikes. Help your child learn these important skills by playing with their own learning toys.

Durable Dog Toys

My dog is a chewer. He's a Border collie with unlimited energy and needs to be entertained much of the time. I often get him dog toys of all shapes and sizes. The first thing he goes after are the eyes if the toy has them. The next is the squeaker, followed by any stuffing. If there ever was a dog that needed durable dog toys, my dog is the perfect example.

Now my dog is no amateur when it comes to quickly dissecting every toy that is made from cloth materials. He does have a squirrel that he like enough not to go after the parts but most new stuffed toys are quickly dispatched to the dog toy graveyard. Sometimes these cloth dog toys are destroyed in a matter of minutes.

And plastic toys are just as quick to be destroyed as cloth ones. He has a real determination to chew through anything and is very good at it. Plastic toys have a tendency to be dangerous too. They break off in parts that can be swallowed or get caught in his teeth. And believe me when I say I don't need another expensive trip the Vet.

The good news is that he never chews on anything but dog toys. He's a smart dog and although he will borrow a cat toy sometimes, he never really destroys them. He does have a bad habit of bringing the toys to bed and which is not a good thing.

And he does have a tendency to scatter the toys out in the yard, which makes for projectiles when mowing the lawn. Or run over in the driveway. And the most fun is to trip over one of his toys in the back yard. He obviously has too many toys.

We have discovered several dog toys that our dog can't immediately destroy and are pretty durable dog toys. Each one is different but all have passed the chew tests. And the good thing about all three of these dog toys is he will play with them all by himself.

The first one is homemade out of old denim jeans. When a pair is finally ready for the trash bin I cut up strips about 15 inches long and two inches wide. I then tie about 4 strips together with a knot in the middle. This leaves about 6 inch strips coming out from the knot. He loves to fetch this toy and he'll go play with it by himself, throwing it up into the air and then chasing it.

The next favorite is a soup bone. We always check the meat section and look for soup bones that are the right size (big enough not to cause any problems with swallowing whole). Sometimes we make the soup; sometimes we just give him the bone right out of the package. He doesn't seem to care and he's got quite a collection that he will go get himself and play with for hours. We usually will take a few older ones away when he isn't looking.

The third favorite is made by Nylabone and looks like a big wishbone with a handle. I think they cost around $4 or $5 and are the most durable dog toys we've ever bought. His favorite size is about 4 inches by 4 inches and he will spend hours chewing on it. We usually will throw one out when it gets too chewed up but they last for months.

We still try new dog toys from time to time but most fail the durability test quickly. That's not to say he doesn't have a good time with them, but it's a short good time. And most are under a few dollars so they won't break the bank. But the three most durable dog toys remain the three listed above and I highly recommend you give them a try if you have a dog that is a chewer like mine.

WALL-E USB Toys

I hope you are a regular movie goer because this hub is about a movie. Yes this movie is known as WALLoE, and it is an animated flick. It is one of the cool movies brought to you by Pixar. Pixar also created many other animated hits such as Toy Story One and Two, Mr Incredibles (and his family of Incredibles), A Bug's Life, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, Cars, Ratatouille and Up. Hope I did not miss out on any of these cool movies and I heard Toy Story 3 is coming out next year.

The movie WALLoE is set in the future about a robot who has the same name as the movie, known as WALLoE. WALLoE stands for Waste Allocator Load Lifter Earth class. Basically, in the future, Earth has been wasted and many of these WALL-E robots are left on earth to clean it up, i.e. take up all the trash and compact them and maybe create massive landfill sites. The humans have also left earth on board massive spaceships and they hope that while they are on board the spaceships, earth would be cleaned up by all the WALLEs.

Unfortunately this plan failed. Earth was not cleaned up and many of the WALL-Es also stopped functioning (leaving only one WALL-E which is our hero and main character of the movie). The earthlings remained on the space ships and did not return back to earth. This story does not end here. It is also a love romance story, because another robot known as EVE, which stands for Extraterrestrial Vegetation Examiner comes into the picture. This robot is supposed to look for vegetation on earth and meets Wall-E who actually has managed to find some vegetation! They then return to the space ship and their adventures begin.

On the ship, the artificial intelligence refused to allow the humans to return back to earth even though EVE had found signs of plant life, which indicated that earth was hospitable and habitable again. Hence WallE and EVE together with a renegade of robots, go on a string of adventures to bring the ship and the humans back to earth. Even though the captain of the ship wanted to turn the ship back to earth, the artificial intelligence removed and hid the plant (the plant is needed to re-program the ship back to return back to earth). Eventually of course Walle and EVE saved the day and lived happily ever after, with the ship and the humans all returning back to earth.

The Best Cat Toys

As a cat owner, you have probably spent a lot of money on a new toy for your cat only to discover that your feline friend is not interested. Cats are notoriously difficult to please, which, coupled with their intelligence, means that it can be difficult to find cat toys that will be enjoyed for longer than five minutes. If you are looking for toys to stimulate your cat, here are some that you may like to consider.

Wand and Fishing Toys

They may seem quite simple and unappealing to a human eye, but cats do not seem to tire of swiping things with their paws and hunting small pieces of fur. Of course, a cat's natural instinct is to stalk and hunt. Therefore, if your cat is spending all day indoors he, or she, has no outlet for these tendencies.

Wand or fishing toys consist of a simple stick with a small piece of fur or some feathers attached to the end of a piece of string. The best kind of wand toy is one that is lightweight, as your cat will find this more enjoyable. This type of toy is certainly worth investing in, as not only will your cat derive huge amounts of pleasure from it, but it also allows you to spend some quality playtime with your pet.

Balls

Another relatively inexpensive option is balls, which is probably just as well as they can easily become lost. However, like the wand toy, a ball allows a cat to exercise its hunting and pouncing instincts. Typically, most cats prefer a ball that jingles or makes another type of noise. Playing with a ball is a simple game that can be played alone, which means that your cat can be kept stimulated while you are out. Alternatively, of course, when you are at home, you can join in, too.

Cloth Toys

Although I am an advocate of simple toys, a cloth toy that does nothing, will not entertain a cat for very long. Generally, a cat prefers a toy that moves. However, if you would like to purchase small cloth toys, ones containing catnip are highly recommended. When looking for catnip toys, you may like to consider ones that are refillable, as the scent will not last long. However, typically these types of toy can be bought very cheaply, so you may find it less time consuming to buy new toys rather than find fresh catnip.

Other Small Toys

More small toys that I would recommend are ones that are set on coiled spring, as this is wonderful for batting and swiping. You are likely to find some scratching posts that have these kinds of toys attached; this is especially attractive to the cat and will encourage him, or her, to use the scratching post as well as the springy toys.

Laser Pointers

Laser pointers are some of the latest cat toys to immerge, but whether they will appeal to your cat depends upon the individual temperament of your pet. Those who do enjoy laser pointer toys really love them. On the other hand, there are cats that could not be less interested. The good news is that a laser pointer can be bought relatively cheaply, so it need not cost a fortune to discover whether or not it seems like fun to your cat.

Owners should never point lasers directly at the cat. Make sure that the laser is directed onto the floor. If your cat is interested he, or she, will chase the laser around in an attempt to catch it.

Of course, these are just some of the toys that you may like to consider for your cat. There are many more options available, so it is easy to ensure that your pet is never bored.

SweatshirtToys> for emergencies is a company need to accept donations of new or like new toys to children. I was in hospital for children, foster children, homeless children, or those who have left their homes destroyed in a fire. Whatever the reason, these toys are difficult times offer comfort and peace that they need, children are in. and certainly at the top of this organization and, in particular its efforts to huggable friends, even whenworst of times.

fire and police may be accepted as, donations, and give children excited and shocked by a tragic car accident, or for children who were removed from their homes for abuse or neglect. This small, friendly creatures that children can be maintained, and are often seen as a symbol of triumph in his life was not a difficult moment is better than a plush toy.

Hospitals accept toys donated tissue time to give all theChildren. Many children in hospitals are not related to cancer or diseases to be treated almost inconceivable. Too many of these children grow up too quickly from their applications, and need some comfort all day, nurses and families can not always offer. A plush doll from a stranger can mean the world for a child dealing with chemotherapy or blood draws.

Many homeless shelters and battered women shelters accept donations of stuffed animals to give to the needy on aTime of high stress and indecision. Some organizations also donate bags at night to homeless children, complete with a book, toy and a blanket. How to Buy Plush Toys?

Plush toys make great playmates for children. Being around these soft and cuddly toys, especially (animal figures) gives most children a feeling security and comfort. The best way to buy one for your child is to take him/her toy shopping with you. However, if for some reason you can't or want to surprise your little darling with a new cuddly playmate, remember to follow these guidelines-

A plush toy from a cartoon show, movie or video game that your child is fond of is sure to bring a smile on his/her face.

The size of the plush toy should depend on your child's personal preference and age. In general toddlers get scared of toys bigger than them in size, but slightly older children seem to like big toys.

A plush toy with sound will not only make an entertaining playmate but will also play an educational role. However, avoid buying such toys for 4-7 month olds, as they may get scared of sound emitting toys.

If your child has started going to school, animal plush toys with sound can act as excellent teaching aids. Not only will your child learn the names of animals and the sounds they make, you can also use these toys to teach your children the art of differentiating between colors and even make bedtime stories far more interesting and fun!

Plush toys, especially animal plush toys should look almost exactly like real animals; this will help your child identify them on TV and in the real world.

Finally, make sure that the toy is manufactured by a company with a good reputation.

Toys in the bedroom

Have you always wanted more attention from their partner or spouse in the bedroom? There are ways to implement this, but first we need, that we step back and see how each person interacts with others within the limits of their private bedroom.

Is your significant other does not initiate sex in the bedroom and feel like you are doing what in this way all the time and just tired? Well, this happens to many people. A person who arrives mustOpening the act of making love all the time, while the other seems to sit there and do nothing They are traded on. This usually happens because it's the same routine over and over again and there's nothing for us, but to seek the same old stuff. Someone needs to strengthen and take over, and it is likely that if you read this article, then chances are you!

No problem, look this way, if you read this article you are interested in making a changeon your significant other, and this is very nice. Probably also means that you be open to trying new things to help make things better in this department and I welcome it. Most people give up easily and happily live without a sex life at all, but for us here, we just need all the time and always want good and interesting.

So how do you make things more interesting? There are many different ways, but some of my favorites areFollowing:

1) Buy a good few adult movies, toys or even some sexy lingerie FollowThatPackage.com If you do not get to do the film and was just looking at it, will not be exciting, but if you know what type of movie your significant other can be picked up for films that along their lines in order to obtain a vein. Also get one for yourself if this approach fails, you can at least enjoy. Surprises by creating toys, peopleLaugh at first, but then turns to think about what they can do. If your significant other is not so much stuff, you get the same and show them how to use them or how they should be used and get some video on that too, so do different things with the stars can not even be seen.

2) If you are a nudist beach for you, GO! I'll tell you, I have since last year and it was very exciting and erotic for next to my partner in the hot sun, getting all oily, and sitwith sweat and suntan oil being around others who were very comfortable with her body. At first I was nervous, but honestly, the day after I came back and was not nervous. Both have found this as an exciting than we did before but to do something, we were.

3) together to talk and know what you do not like is, and loves each other. The main thing is to be open and honest, no hold or hang up. Say something likeor vice versa, and then he tells you what the others like it and then posed for him. That will never work, to be open and listen, because it is for you. Important Dos and Don'ts For Choosing Parrots Toys

Parrots are very intelligent creatures that while in the wild get to indulge their curiosity by flying and exploring the world around them. They tend to fly from tree to tree, peck at interesting things and forage for food.

What happens when this creature becomes a pet? There is significantly less physical and mental activity unless the pet owner makes a conscious effort to provide both. Parrots toys are a great way to provide mental stimulation and to generate some physical activity also.

One of the basic things to remember when choosing a toy for your parrot is DO pick something that is size appropriate. DON'T get a big toy for a small bird such as a Green-Cheek Conures or Quaker Parrot or a tiny toy for a larger bird such as a Cockatoo or Macaw. This can be frustrating and can even lead to injuries.

When choosing parrot toys DO keep in mind the activities that your bird enjoys. Parrots love to chew, they like shredding and they like to peer into nooks and crannies. The best toys are those that build on these natural instincts and allow the birds to stay engaged while doing so.

Wooden and paper toys are good materials for them to chew on and toy manufacturers use soft to hard woods to provide varied levels of challenge for the birds. Very often parrots toys include raw hide as it provides the birds something to chew on.

A variety of textures can be very stimulating to a parrot so DO pick parrot toys which incorporate varied materials or pick toys made of varied materials. Other than wood and paper, you will also find commercial toys that have introduced clothing material, cotton ropes, coconut fibers and raffia in imaginative ways so as to provide variety for the birds.

DO pick toys that have a puzzle quality to them as that will serve the purpose of mentally engaging the parrot. Some of these toys have a space where you can hide a nut or small treat because that will give the bird the joy of foraging and the emotional high of succeeding.

Remember that parrots are very intelligent, and in that sense, their toys have to serve the purpose that infant toys are supposed to serve. It is to keep them entertained but it is also to ensure that they get to use their capabilities.

At this point, it should also be pointed out that you need to gradually increase the complexity of your parrots' toys. There is nothing more frustrating for you and your bird than to start with the most complicated toy in the market. Yes, it may be the ultimate combination of texture and puzzle, but it will be best to work up to that stage. DON'T drop that on your parrot at the very beginning.

Toys can also be about physical exercise. You would like to get your bird a lot of flying time but that may sometimes not be feasible. A well chosen toy can help them work off some of their energy. DO pick toys with movable parts such as ring swings and varied levels of dowels can encourage movement in parrots.

There are also foot toys which are specially intended for parrots to manipulate with their feet. There may be something to open and some simple mechanism to work which can keep parrots happily engaged for a while.

There is no overstating the emotional value of toys for parrots but there are a few things to keep in mind here. DON'T see your role as merely providing an extravagance of playthings and leaving the parrot to his or her own devices.

DO monitor the appeal of each toy you introduce and replace ones that are not working. It will also be most productive to introduce one toy at a time and to rotate between a few so as to prevent boredom from over-exposure.

And remember that while the toys provide much needed stimulation, it will not be a complete replacement of the time you need to interact with your smart pet. Make sure you DON'T let that happen!

In terms of parrot safety, DO make sure you select toys that are made of safe materials such as nontoxic plastic, natural fibers and organic dyes and untreated wood and avoid toys that have chemically processed leather, zinc, lead or treated wood.

When you choose a toy with a rope element watch out for frayed material as this can be disastrous for parrots. As mentioned earlier, DO pick size appropriate toys so that your bird will not get a head or toe stuck in an awkward place or angle.

And as a part of your safety awareness, DO inspect toys that your bird is playing with frequently and replace broken or worn out ones promptly.

It may take some thinking and choosing but your bird will definitely benefit from the effort you put into picking your parrot's toys.

Best Selling Christmas Toys For 2008

It's amazing to see and, maybe rather comforting also, that some of the best selling Christmas toys this year will be ones from the past with a new twist, and updated versions of the original product. Baby dolls, for example, resembling more and more the real thing, are expected to be in high demand. These babies are coming home with their new electronic potties and their instructions for potty training. Toys and games connected to children's entertainment are also expected to be high on their Christmas list. The best selling Christmas toys are ones that allow them to portray their favorite characters dancing, singing, and playing out their favorite big screen moments.

So, while you have your little girls dreaming of being rock stars, what is your little boy hoping for? You will not be surprised to know it's the big screen action heroes. However, there does not seem to be a trend towards war, but rather the heroes being portrayed in good old fashion adventures. Even your children are sensing a need to return to more traditional and simpler times. They are finding it less complicated and more fun. The best selling Christmas toys this year are going to provide that.

Also, expect to see a new game craze coming out of Japan. The electronic action game has some new features that are expected to take the younger children by surprise, and take their attention from the usual box games that have been so popular in recent years. Again, based on adventure and heroism, these games can become interactive, with a special tracking device to find the invisible beast. The beast is captured by rotating your body until you hook a beast, and reel it in by winding the handle. Then the battle begins. This is at the top of the best selling Christmas toys as parents are looking for the best deals that they can afford this year.

Another electronic action game that appears to be a watch is also gaining the attention of the savvy shoppers. Based on a television show, dial into the alien and its powers you wish to emulate, and save the world! The sound effects and lighting tricks are the same as on the television. The action is fast and furious, and completely engaging.

There is also a shooting game. While easy to learn, it may very well take a lifetime to become an expert. Become a Bakugan warrior, rolling your Bakugan onto a special gate card and be transformed in a mean machine. The special effects surrounding this game are pretty awesome in the eyes of the child. This may also get the attention of his/hers older siblings. Everything you need to enjoy this game is included in the initial purchase, so there is no worry about having to add to this game.

Whether it's a baby doll with 8 different life functions that will keep your little mother caring for baby for hours, or new hand held electronics, best selling Christmas toys are here.

Educational Toys Help Kids Develop Life Skills

Educational Toys and Life Skills
Educational toys not only promote developmental skills in children. They also help children acquire and improve essential life skills. Creativity, self-confidence, independence, responsibility, and integrity can all be cultivated through the use of carefully selected educational toys.

Creativity
One hallmark of educational toys is how well they support creative, open-ended play. A tray of wooden food can inspire a child to spend a whole afternoon running a pretend restaurant or planting and harvesting crops on a pretend farm. A set of blocks can be turned into a tower, a road system, a fort, a car, or even different animals. And the possibilities for a pound of modeling clay are endless! The more time a child spends exploring all the different things a toy can become, the more developed the child's powers of imagination will be. This fosters an open-mindedness to new possibilities that will help the child think of creative and innovative solutions to any challenges he or she ends up facing as an adult.

Self-Confidence
One way to build self-confidence is through play that encourages a child to assert him or herself. Singing, performing, and acting in front of an audience all help children assert themselves both in the planning stage and during an actual performance. Children also learn to assert themselves by acting out scenarios or performing informally with peers. Open-ended toys such as musical instruments and dress-up clothes and props encourage this type of play.

Taking risks that pay off will also develop a child's self-confidence. Susan G. Solomon, author of American Playgrounds: Revitalizing Community Space, notes that "Children need a chance to take acceptable risks, learn cause and effect, make choices and see consequences. If they don't learn to take risks, we'll lose a generation of entrepreneurs and scientists."
To take such risks, children must develop powers of risk assessment and decision making so that they can be sure that the risks they plan to take are, in fact, acceptable. The act of riding and controlling large toys such as bicycles requires children to calculate physical risks. The logic needed to play certain strategy-based board games like Monopoly, chess, and checkers involves risk assessment such as whether or not to invest in a property or risk one piece for a future, greater gain.

To improve their ability to calculate risk, children should also develop their decision-making skills. Science and engineering kits can help by requiring children to use observations and directions to make decisions about how to run an experiment or build a working machine. Puzzles and building construction sets can also hone this skill.

Independence
In general, allowing children to direct their own play and be in charge of what to do during their free time helps them become more self-sufficient and resilient. In particular, certain educational toys foster skills such as problem solving, taking charge of a situation, and leadership.
One aspect of being independent is being able to solve a problem on your own. Working with a construction toy system allows a child to explore different solutions to the challenge of building various items. Logical challenges faced on your own, such as figuring out how to use a set of pattern blocks to replicate certain complicated patterns, also build problem-solving skills.

Another aspect of being independent is taking charge of a situation. This can be as simple as providing your baby with two toy choices and allowing the baby the autonomy to make his or her own decision about which to play with. Beyond that, you can also encourage the development of independence by allowing your child to direct what roles you will take on when playing with your child or letting your child be in charge of how a toy will be played with. Providing your child with open-ended play sets such as farms, fire and police stations, pirate ships, tree houses, and train stations creates a situation where your child can control what scenarios he or she will act out that day.

A third aspect of being independent is taking a leadership role. While unit blocks and communal building sets of oversized hollow wood blocks, huge foam blocks, or sturdy cardboard blocks can foster cooperation skills, they can also offer opportunities for one child to lead others in a positive way to build a specific construction that that child has in mind. Educational toys can also help children become self-motivated and self-directed so that they can lead themselves to accomplishments without always relying on outside support and affirmation.

Responsibility
To become good citizens, all children should develop a sense of personal, societal, and environmental responsibility. In general, trusting children to take good care of their toys, to play nicely with them and put them back where they belong when play is done, can begin to foster a sense of responsibility. At the most basic level, a chart such as Melissa and Doug's Magnetic Responsibility Chart can help a child keep track of his or her personal obligations. Beyond that, specific toys can develop other kinds of responsibility.

When a child is provided with an open-ended toy such as a construction set that must be assembled by the child, he or she will take on the personal responsibility of following the directions and making sure the toy is put together correctly. This will train the child to take a sense of pride and personal responsibility in any future jobs he or she is expected to do. And, when a child takes care of a doll or pretend pet, he or she also develops a sense of personal responsibility for fulfilling his or her obligations to someone else.

Role-playing of obligations can extend to creating a sense of responsibility to society. When a child pretends that he or she is a construction worker or a doctor, that child is practicing taking on adult responsibilities that must be fulfilled if people are to live together in communities. Such role-playing socializes the child and allows him or her to get used to the idea of becoming a contributing member to such a community once he or she is grown.

Finally, science kits that encourage children to study the earth can educate children about why people must take care of animals, land, resources, and so forth. Plus, toys that are crafted from sustainable materials (such as Plan Toys) or bioplastics (such as Green Toys), or designed to use recycled materials (such as the Uberstix Scavenger sets), encourage a respect for the conservation of natural resources. This in turn leads to a developed sense of responsibility for caring for the environment.

Integrity
Educational toys can also help children develop integrity. Using costumes and props to role-play situations such as customer and server can help children practice politeness and manners. Acting out scenarios such as taking care of an injured doll or animal can foster compassion and empathy. And playing competitive games fairly by taking turns and following the rules develops a child's appreciation for right and wrong.

The educational benefit of toys for child development cannot be underestimated. The childhood pursuit for play and discovery continues into adulthood. Children develop fascination about their surroundings from playing with toys and continue to pick up hobbies late into their adult life.

Tips For Selecting Toys For Your Three-Year-Old

Three is a magical age for a child. At this age, your child begins to make the transition from "toddler" to "preschool age" - a big jump when it comes to physical and mental development. As such, selecting toys for a three-year-old that help with her development while also keeping her safe and adequately entertained can be tricky. By following these few simple tips, you should have no problem choosing a toy that will keep both you and your three-year-old happy.

Tip #1: Get Him Moving

Toys that encourage your three-year-old to get up and move around are always a good buy. Three-year-olds love to explore and to be active. In addition, movement helps to develop your child's gross motor skills and fine motor skills. Gross motor skills are those that involve large muscles, such as the legs, arms, feet, and torso. Running and jumping utilize gross motor skills. Fine motor skills, on the other hand, are those that involve smaller muscles such as those found in the toes, fingers, and wrists.

Toys such as balls are ideal for throwing, rolling, and catching - all of which help develop your child's gross motor skills. Catching also helps your child work on his hand/eye coordination. Fine motor skills are also exercised with balls when your child grasps the ball tightly with his fingers. Balls come in all sizes, shapes, and colors, so you are certain to find at least one that your child will love.

Tip #2: Let Her Explore Her Artistic Talents

By the time your child reaches the age of three, she is ready to begin exploring her artistic talents. This includes finger painting, drawing with chunky crayons, and cutting with blunt tipped scissors. Of course, each of these activities can be quite messy. Therefore, it is important for you to keep a close eye on your three-year-old as she explores this whole new world.

Giving your child a chance to explore arts and crafts helps to further develop her fine motor skills, as cutting and drawing requires attaining great control of the smaller muscles. In addition, dabbling in art helps to open the door to the world of science as she discovers the effects of mixing various colors and cutting different types of paper.

Tip #3: Encourage Him to Use His Imagination

Children have amazing imaginations that should be developed and encouraged. Through imaginative play, your child can begin to make sense of the world around him. From pretending to be "daddy," to being a construction worker or a doctor, your child makes sense of the role he plays in the world and how to interact with it when engaging in imaginative play.

You can encourage imaginative play by purchasing play outfits for your child. From capes to pirate gear, from cowboy hats to crowns, the sky is the limit.

By following these few simple tips, your child will be thrilled with the play opportunities around her. In addition, you will be helping her take those important steps toward becoming the success you had always dreamed she would be.

Toys Take Up the Fun

Toys are everywhere! They come in all shapes, sizes, and brands. Most toys are created to provide pure enjoyment for children while others are made to help stimulate a child's mind in a fun way. In any case, toys are a great way to keep a youngster occupied.

Some of the most popular toys out on the market these days are action figures and Barbie dolls. Some action figures are based on movies that have recently hit the theatres. For example, one award winning action figure is The Incredible Hulk, which is a movie that came on June 13th, 2008. Barbie dolls have been around for over 49 years and they have still been running strong! There is a Barbie for each little girl's fantasy. The joy of Barbie is that you can dress her up and match her clothes with accessories sold separately. Barbie's hair is also another attraction as it comes long and pliable so that little girls can arrange and decorate her hair as they please.

Toys don't necessarily have to be action figures or dolls. They can even be audio books. No, audio books are not just for adults. They help children appreciate stories that are heard as well as those written on paper. Since a lot of audio books include a cast of readers as well as sound effects, it is easy for even the younger children to get caught up in the excitement of the story as it is being told.

Educational toys include LeapFrog and Fisher-Price products. Fisher-Price has been providing fun education for children everywhere since 1930. Some brands under this name are Disney, Sesame Street, Barney, Dora the Explorer, and See 'n Say. If you can stir up a child's love of learning when they are young, that drive to learn new and interesting things will stay with him or her right into adulthood. Keep in mind, not all learning has to take place in a formal environment. Of course, school is important, but we should be open to learning new things in a variety of settings.

Whether it be a toy that was made for all fun and games or a toy that was made for teaching a child new things, you can't go wrong. Toys are a great gift for a kid of any age and for any occasion. Suppose it is little Mike's 6th birthday. What ever should you get him? A toy airplane is not a bad idea at all! But what about little Sara? What should you get her for Christmas? Every little girl with their very own dollhouse would hold it dear to their hearts.
